Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that the July 24 meeting between 2 Iranian negotiators Ali Bagheri and Helga Schmid and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Catherine Ashton will be key to the resumption of nuclear negotiations. Mehmanparast said that Tehran hopes the world will recognize Iran’s nuclear rights for peaceful purposes and put its fears to rest.

Iran’s statement came after the US and the EU tightened their sanctions on Iran’s oil exports. The last round of Iran-P5+1 negotiations in Russia made no progress. The parties agreed only that they would hold lower-level discussions to seek ways to break the deadlock.
