Zarif said that any mediator should focus on how the United States returns to its obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal. He made the remarks in Helsinki of Finland in a joint press conference with his Finish counterpart Pekka Haavisto, who said the EU was doing its best to save the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Zarif also condemned Britain’s illegal and unlawful seizure of oil tanker Grace 1, which is now called the Adrian Darya 1 supertanker, in the Strait of Gibraltar last month carrying Iranian oil. He accused the US of seizing the vessel of bringing political goals. The same day, the media said the Adrian Darya 1 left Gibraltar for Kalamata in Greece.
