(VOVworld) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will be making state visits to Italy and France next week, becoming the first Iranian president to travel to Europe in a decade.

An Iranian delegation led by President Rouhani will meet with Italian officials in Rome. Rouhani is scheduled to meet with Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Italian investors and industrialists.

He will then head to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis and Prime Minister Archbishop Pietro Parolin. Rouhani will also address the UNESCO Leaders’ Forum as a special guest at the organization’s headquarters in Paris on November 16. He plans to sit down with French President François Hollande the following day.

During Rouhani’s four-day visit, the Iranian officials accompanying him will sign several memoranda of understanding. The visit paves the way for increased cooperation between Iran and European countries following Iran’s signing of a nuclear deal with P5+1.
