Iraq turns to UNSC to demand Turkey’s troop withdrawal

(VOVworld) – Iraq called on the UN Security Council to demand an unconditional and immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from the Iraqi territory to put an end to the "aggressive act" and "flagrant violation" of international legislation and Iraqi territorial integrity and sovereignty. Iraqi Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim wrote the demand in a letter to US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power who is presiding in the Security Council this month. He said that UN support for Iraq in training soldiers and learning to use modern weapons in the fight against the Islamic State should be listed in bilateral and multilateral deals with respect to Iraq’s national sovereignty and constitution, and in cooperation with Iraqi forces.

Turkey’s Prime Minister said he will not concede Iraq’s demand. Turkey’s troops are currently stationed near in Mosul City which is under control of the IS.
