Japan: North Korea could be preparing missile launch

(VOVWORLD) - Japan has been on alert after intercepting radio signals suggesting North Korea might be preparing for a ballistic missile launch.

The Kyodo news agency quoted one of the sources as saying that North Korea might launch a missile within the next few days. But as satellite images have not shown a missile or a movable launch pad, the signals may just be related to winter training for the North Korean military.

Asked about the media reports, Pentagon spokesman Colonel Robert Manning said that the United States continues to watch North Korea very closely. He said the Republic of Korea and the US alliance remain strong and capable of countering any North Korean provocation or attack, adding that this is still a diplomatic effort supported by military options.
