Mr. Phuc welcomed Japan's efforts to secure economic prosperity, freedom of trade, and maritime safety in the Indo-Pacific region.

In an article posted on its website, television station NHK said the two PMs agreed to enhance cooperation in maintaining maritime security to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and work harder to promote trade liberalisation and implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Agreement.

NHK quoted Mr. Abe as saying Japan and Vietnam will step up cooperation for development of the Mekong region. mr. Phuc said Japan plays a very important role in Vietnam’s development strategy, and he wants bilateral relations to expand.
