Kazakhstan pesident says constitutional order is largely restored

(VOVWORLD) - The constitutional order has been largely restored in all regions of Kazakhstan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday, according to the presidential press service.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation, but terrorists are still using weapons, and causing damage to civilian property. Therefore, the counter-terrorist operation will continue until militants stop their destruction, he added. Tokayev has issued a number of orders to further stabilize the situation in the country, the presidential press service said.

Earlier, riots in Kazakhstan led Tokayev to declare a state of emergency in several major localities, including Mangistau province, Almaty city, and Nur-Sultan capital.

According to Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry on Friday, 26 “armed criminals” had been killed and 3,000 arrested. 18 members of the law enforcement forces lost their lives to days of unrest as a result of gas price hikes.
