Storm hit areas in Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province
(VOVworld) – Tropical storm Mangkhut reached the mainland last night and weakened to a tropical low pressure. In the central province of Thanh Hoa and the northern province of Ninh Binh, where the storm was centered, flood prevention and search and rescue forces are handling the storm’s effects. Nguyễn Quan Hoằng is chairman of the Hậu Lộc district people’s committee: “The storm blew roofs off some residents’ houses in Ngư Lộc commune and a processing zone in the district’s fishing port. We’re gathering forces to overcome the damage. Cadres will be on watch in important locations to detect problems. Public security forces will check roads for fallen trees.”

Mangkhut flooded Kim Son district, in Ninh Binh province. The province’s flood prevention forces have been stationed at important places to ensure public safety. Vu Nam Tien, Deputy Director of the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said forces are in frequent contact by phone to exchange information about the storm. Patrols prevented residents from returning to aquaculture watch-towers.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the next 2 days, the storm will cause heavy rain and strong wind in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. The Centre advised localities to take flooding and landslide precautions in vulnerable areas.
