(VOVWORLD) - The memorial service for President Tran Dai Quang took place on Thursday morning at the National Funeral Hall, No.5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. Present at the ceremony were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, other senior leaders and former leaders of Vietnam, and representatives from foreign delegations.

Reading the funeral oration, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, head of the funeral board, reiterated that President Tran Dai Quang made great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and State and that the passing of the President is a great loss to the Party, State, people, and his family.
“As a Politburo member, the President together with the Politburo led the entire Party, people, and army in effectively implementing Resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and Resolutions of the Party Central Committee and the National Assembly. He worked closely with the legislative, executive, and judicial agencies and the Vietnam Fatherland Front to accomplish the tasks and authority of the President, Chairman of the Council for National Defense and Security, and Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, in compliance with the Party guidelines, Constitution, and law. By doing so, he contributed to national renewal and economic development, expanding foreign relations, international integration, strengthening defense and security capacity, maintaining socio-political stability, and elevating Vietnam’s role, position, and prestige worldwide,” Mr. Trong said.
The Party General Secretary said President Quang was one of the key leaders of Vietnam who had a high sense of responsibility, set a role model, and maintained solidarity and unity within the Party. He placed the interests of the Party and the nation first and received admiration and respect from his comrades, people and foreign friends.
Mr. Trong confirmed Vietnam’s determination to stay united and strive to pursue the glorious revolutionary path chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese people. He vowed to consistently follow Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought, promote patriotism, self-reliance, national unity, and comprehensively strengthen the renewal process to build a wealthy people and strong, democratic, fair, and civilized country, which is firmly advancing to socialism.

The memorial ceremony for President Tran Dai Quang was held simultaneously in Reunification Hall, Ho Chi Minh City.
Later on Thursday, the burial ceremony took place in the President’s native land in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province. National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, senior leaders and former senior leaders of the Party and State and people of all social strata attended the ceremony.
