More resources to be allocated to ethnic minority regions

(VOVWORLD) - At the ongoing National Assembly session on Tuesday, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien presented a report reviewing 3 years of supporting the socio-economic development of ethnic minorities in mountainous areas.

He said government policies helped 1.5 million poor families and provided 820,000 people vocational training, the Social Policy Bank of Vietnam gave 1.4 million families  nearly 2 billion USD in loans, and the poverty rate in disadvantaged districts fell below 40%, down 5%. Mr. Chien said the State will continue to focus on education development, health care, and preserving ethnic minority values. He said: "We’ll allocate more resources to improve the lives of minority groups, especially in the northwest region, the Central Highlands, the southwest region, and the central coastal region. We’ll also conduct surveys and hold seminars to review policies for ethnic minority affairs and build integrated, practical, and effective policies for the 2021-2030 period. Also, we’ll seek ways to solve existing problems to improve the lives of ethnic minorities."

The same day, NA deputies heard a mid-term review report on investment for national target programs from 2016 to 2020.
