Before launching killing spree at the Olympia shopping mall in the Bavarian city, Sonboly was still a Munich student.

Evidence showed that said that the German-Iranian student had likely used a hacked Facebook account to lure people to a McDonald's restaurant, "offering them special reductions."

Investigators said that Sonboly was armed with an unlicensed Glock 9mm pistol and had 300 rounds of ammunition in his backpack. Sonboly killed himself at the end of the attack.

At a press conference, Mrs. Merkel expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and pledged to “find out the background” of what happened in this case and an axe attack in Wuerzburg city, also in Bavaria injuring five people on Monday.
