NA Chairman concludes official visit to Switzerland

(VOVworld) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with President of Switzerland’s Federal Assembly Hannes Germann and attended a plenary session of the Lower House on Wednesday. He said that the purpose of his visit was to deepen friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Switzerland and its parliament. He added that the visit opened new prospects in bilateral relations and inter-regional and global cooperation. Chairman Hung said he hoped negotiations of a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Switzerland would continue to progress. He said that Vietnam supports Switzerland’s bid to strengthen relations with Southeast Asian nations. He proposed that both countries establish consultation mechanisms and work closely together in multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) and the French Parliamentary Forum (APF).

President of Switzerland’s Federal Assembly Hannes Germann said that parliamentary cooperation is one of the most effective cooperative channels between Vietnam and Switzerland. He suggested both countries share their experiences in law making and supervision.

Chairman Hung left Switzerland on Wednesday for Rome on an official visit to Italy at the invitation of Speaker of Italy’s Lower House Laura Boldrini.
