Before the session, lawmakers observed a minute of silence in memory of the officers, soldiers, and people, who were killed by recent flooding and landslides in the central region.

Subsequent storms have hit central Vietnam since last month, causing losses of human lives and property and disrupting local livelihoods. Numerous people remain missing following a landslide in Tra Leng commune, Quang Nam province. It is a terrible loss for the families and the country as a whole, legislators agreed.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan talked about the agenda of this session, “The National Assembly will approve important resolutions for a socio-economic development plan, State budget estimates, and a central budget allocation plan for 2021. Those resolutions include measures to boost production and business from the pandemic and natural disasters."
Ms. Ngan added, "Lawmakers will exchange opinions on draft documents to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress and decide a date for national elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils in the 2021-2026 term.”
