(VOVworld) – The Italian coastguard said it had saved 4,000 migrants on Thursday, in 22 operations, which brings the total number Italy has helped rescue since Monday to more than 10,000.

Around 5,600 migrants were rescued from various boats between Monday and Wednesday, this is the greatest number of migrants rescued in the past 5 months. Scores of migrants have flowed from Libya to Italy, the nearest European country to Africa. Since the beginning of this year, Italy has rescued more than 50,000 migrants at sea.
