Overseas Vietnamese defend Vietnam’s sovereignty

(VOVworld) – Vietnamese living in the UK rallied this week in front of the Chinese Embassy to protest China’s placement of oil rig Haiyang-981 within Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf.

They denounced China for violating Vietnam’s sovereignty. This was the second protest by Vietnamese in the UK. Protesters raised Vietnamese flags and banners written in Vietnamese, English, and Chinese asserting Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes and demanding that China withdraw its oil rig. They condemned China for intentionally ramming Vietnamese law enforcement ships and sinking a fishing vessel, calling it an act of brutality.

Vietnamese in the UK pledged their unity with the Vietnamese government in defending Vietnam’s territorial waters and supporting soldiers and fishermen working in these areas.

Vietnamese in Russia donated 100,000 USD to Vietnam’s law enforcement forces. At a ceremony held by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Association, Ambassador Pham Xuan Son briefed the gathering on developments in the East Sea.

Son said: “Once again, I urge every Vietnamese in Russia to show their patriotism and citizen’s responsibility by staying keen in their daily work to develop their units and contribute to a stronger comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia. I’d like to kick off a donation campaign to encourage our marine police and fishery surveillance officers who are steadfastly defending Vietnam’s territorial integrity.”
