Party leader receives Sri Lanka’s Communist Party General Secretary

(VOVworld) – Vietnam, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, will do its utmost to voice its opinions in an objective manner and with a sense of justice regarding human rights issues in Sri-Lanka. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong made the remarks while receiving Sri Lanka’s Party general secretary D.E.W. Gunasekara in Hanoi on Thursday.

Mr. Trong added that Vietnam supports the settlement of human rights issues based on the UN Charter and international law, respecting independence and the sovereignty of countries, and not to intervene in each other’s internal affairs.
He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of respecting and developing a friendly and multilateral cooperative relationship with Sri Lanka, hoping for further cooperation between the two countries’ communist parties through the exchanges of high-ranking delegations and enhanced economic cooperation for their mutual benefit.
For his part, Party general secretary D.E.W. Gunasekara said that Sri Lanka attached great importance to its relationship with Vietnam and hoped for further cooperation for the benefit of both countries and its peoples.
