(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a meeting in Dien Bien province on Wednesday with veteran soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954.

At the meeting, PM Chinh said the Dien Bien Phu victory was achieved by the nation's mettle, brainpower, and revolutionary heroism, as well as the wise, creative, ingenious leadership and strategic direction of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, and the strategic talent of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the commander of the battle.

Mr. Chinh said the Dien Bien Phu victory had a great impact on many people around the world.

“We are deeply grateful to our compatriots and soldiers nationwide, and international friends who stood shoulder to shoulder, sharing the sweet and the bittersweet, to win this historic victory and make Vietnam a bright star of national liberation movements around the world," said the Government leader.

Highlighting the Vietnamese tradition of “when drinking water, remember the source”, Mr. Chinh asked ministries, sectors, and localities to work harder to implement Party guidelines and State policies on caring for national devotees.

He stressed the need to refurbish the Dien Bien martyrs' cemetery to show respect to fallen soldiers and make it a center for educating national history for future generations. He requested for strengthening the use of technology in managing information, images, and memorabilia of heroes, martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, and DNA-based identification of martyrs whose identity is unknown.
