PM Pham Minh Chinh meets EU leaders

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of Germany, Italy, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Poland, Greece, European Commission (EC), Croatia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the European Council, at the Summit to celebrate 45 years of ASEAN and EU relations in Belgium on Wednesday.

At a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed both sides expand cooperation in new areas such as climate change response, energy transformation, digital economy, and green growth.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany will work with Vietnam to promote the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership in all areas. The two leaders consented to support and coordinate with each other on regional and global issues and contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity.

Meeting with the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the relationship with the European Union. He expressed his hope that the European Union will maintain its role as one of Vietnam’s leading partners.

Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU strongly supports Vietnam in marine economy development, marine biodiversity conservation, sustainable agricultural development, and food security.

The same day, Prime Minister Chinh met with President of the European Council Charles Michel. Both sides agreed to enhance efforts to take Vietnam and the EU firmly through the COVID-19 pandemic and enter a new decade of stronger development towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable age.
