(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Hanoi on early Wednesday after attending the 31stASEAN Summit and related meetings in Manila, the Philippines.

Mr. Phuc was involved in 30 bilateral and multilateral activities as part of the summit and related meetings from last Sunday to Tuesday. His participation demonstrated Vietnam’s active and responsible contributions to building an ASEAN of peace, stability, and self-reliance and a region open to external countries.
In addition to a gala night to celebrate ASEAN’s 50th founding anniversary, an opening ceremony, and a closing ceremony to hand over the ASEAN presidency to Singapore, there were 10 official sessions.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Phuc and leaders from other ASEAN countries signed the “ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers”.
Mr. Phuc urged ASEAN to pay more attention to the benefits of people, to improve itself by building a strong, self-reliant and people-centered ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). He shared Vietnam’s stance on recent developments in the East Sea. He said documents adopted at this year’s summit must fully reflect the principles and viewpoints stipulated in the Joint Communiqué of the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which are to ensure security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; settle disputes via peaceful measures in line with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS); respect legal and diplomatic processes; and fully and strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Prime Minister Phuc welcomed the adoption by ASEAN and China of a framework for the Code of Conduct in the East Sea and stressed the need to negotiate a feasible and legally-binding COC.
He said Vietnam hopes that ASEAN’s partner countries will continue to support peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and over flight in the East Sea in the spirit of respecting international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS.
Mr. Phuc attended a meeting of the Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and received UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and President of the European Council Donald Tusk, to exchange ideas for boosting cooperation.
