(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged central provinces to change their mindset for stronger development.

Mr. Phuc told a meeting of the Council for the Central Key Economic Region in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Friday that the central region needs to promote self-reliance, particularly socialization to develop infrastructure and marine tourism by capitalizing on its potential of human resources, cultural heritages, beautiful coastlines, and facilities invested by the Party and State.

The Central Key Economic Region was established 22 years ago, comprising of Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai. Binh Dinh province has been included in the region since 2004. The region’s area accounts for 8.5% of Vietnam’s total area and has a population of 6.5 million, over 7% of the nation’s population.

Located in the center of Vietnam, the region serves as a gateway to the sea of the East-West economic corridor linking Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia.
