Portuguese launch fresh protest against government's austerity measures

Thousands of workers from all walks of life in Portugal gathered Saturday in downtown of capital Lisbon in a fresh protest against the government's austerity measures aimed at winning international lenders bailout for the country's debt crisis.

The protest, the third largest one in the month, was organized by General Federation of the Portuguese Workers. Earlier in the demonstration on September 25th, clashes between the police and protestors led to 64 people injured and 35 others arrested. Hundreds of people also demonstrated outside the offices of local councils in Spain yesterday/ on Saturday to show their support to demonstrators in Madrid. The protests took place as the Spanish government worked out detailed budget plan 2013 to be submitted to the parliament. The plan includes 22 percent cutting of fund for public health care.
