President Nguyen Xuan Phuc receives Ukrainian, Canadian Ambassadors

(VOVWORLD) - On Thursday, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Ukrainian Ambassador Gaman Oleksandr  and Canadian Ambassador Shawn Perry Steil  who presented their credential letters.

At the meeting with the Ukrainian Ambassador, President Phuc said Vietnam treasures its traditional friendship, and comprehensive partnership and cooperation with Ukraine. Mr. Phuc said Vietnam provided 500,000 USD worth of humanitarian aid for Ukraine via the Red Cross Society and the UN and is ready to cooperate with Ukraine in reconstruction.

President Phuc reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of settling disputes by peaceful means in line with fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter including respecting for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, not using or threatening to use force.

The Ukrainian Ambassador thanked Vietnam for providing humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people. He asked the two countries to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment.

Receiving Canadian Ambassador Shawn Perry Steil, the President asked for increasing exchanges and bilateral cooperation in economic recovery and development post COVID-19. He praised Canada for strengthening cooperation with the Asia Pacific thus contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region. Vietnam hopes that Canada would ratify the Indo-Pacific Strategy to demonstrate its support for ASEAN's centrality and the ASEAN-Canada comprehensive partnership.
