At a meeting with Ms. Dobson, President Thuong said that although economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand is modest, the two sides are striving to soon reach a trade turnover of 2 billion USD. Cooperation in defense, security, education and training has obtained good results, which the President described as a positive foundation for further cooperation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025.

The Ambassador said New Zealand appreciates Vietnam as a sincere friend, with both supporting each other to overcome difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic and economic recovery.

She said the two countries resumed high-level dialogue shortly after reopening and that the Prime Minister of New Zealand chose Vietnam as the first country to visit in November 2022 after the pandemic. One month later National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue visited New Zealand. The Ambassador affirmed that New Zealand wishes to cooperate in many aspects with Vietnam.
