(VOVworld)- During his state visit to Cambodia, President Tran Dai Quang on Wednesday met with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hunsen.

Mr. Quang said he is pleased that this is his first visit to Cambodia as president and that he met Mr. Hunsen, a close friend of the Vietnamese people. The President congratulated the Cambodians’ great achievements  under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Senate, National Assembly, government  and the Cambodian People’s Party led by Mr. Hunsen.

Prime Minister Hunsen congratulated Mr. Quang for his new post as president of Vietnam, saying this visit demonstrates the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Both leaders agreed to continue exchanges of visits, particularly visits by the people who are living near the common border. They hoped that the governments of Vietnam and Cambodia will work to increase bilateral trade revenue to 5 billion USD. President Quang asked Prime Minister Hunsen to continue his support for Vietnamese investors in Cambodia. He thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Cambodia for assisting the Vietnamese community there. Mr. Quang expressed his hope that the Cambodian government will continue to help settle problems facing Cambodians of Vietnamese origin, including their legal status, so that they can stabilize their lives and contribute to a richer Cambodia and the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Regarding sub-regional and global cooperation, President Quang expressed his wish that Cambodia will continue to support Vietnam in organizing the 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy or ACMECS and the 8th Summit of the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Cooperation in Vietnam in October. The summit is expected to support Vietnam’s proposal to combine these two mechanisms into a joint cooperation framework between 5 countries of the Mekong sub-regions. Vietnam asked Cambodia to support its candidacy for the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, the International Law Commission from 2017 to 2021 and General Director of UNESCO from 2017 to 2021.

President Tran Dai Quang gave the Cambodian people 1 million USD to built a vocational school in Prey Vang province.

On Wednesday afternoon, President Quang met with Senate President Samdech Say Chhum and National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin. He also visited the Vietnamese embassy and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
