Prime Minister Dung seeks Japan’s greater economic ties and aids

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has hailed the role of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) in the development of bilateral ties. Dung made the commendation in Tokyo on Friday in talks with Keidanren Chairman Yoneikura Hiromasa during his official visit to Japan. Dung expressed his hope for greater collaboration between Keidanren and Vietnamese ministries and agencies to deploy the Viet Nam-Japan Joint Initiative phase 5 and an industrialization strategy. He called for Keidanren’s further assistance in human resource training and favorable conditions for Japanese firms seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Hirosama promised to realize Dung’s proposals. He said he wants the Vietnamese government to facilitate Japanese companies to expand cooperation in energy, electronics, infrastructure, and farm produce processing which are Japan’s strengths.

Also on Friday, Dung discussed with Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), measures to promote development aids. Dung said strengthening strategic partnership with Japan remains a priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy. He thanked Japan for its official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past 20 years and praised JICA’s coordination role. Dung asked Akihiko to lobby for Japan’s increased ODA loans for Vietnam in the 2013 fiscal year and following years, focusing on infrastructure and climate change adaptation for Vietnam’s rapid and sustainable economic growth and effective implementation of cooperative projects. He pledged effective use of Japan’s ODA and progress of ODA-funded projects.

Dung also met with representatives of a number of leading IT firms the same day.

Dung began his official visit to Japan on Thursday at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. During his stay in Japan, Dung will attend summits marking the 40th anniversary of ASEAN – Japan Dialogue relations and the 5th Mekong – Japan Summit.
