Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung hails Australian parliament’s support to Vietnam

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has hailed the Australian parliament’s support for Vietnam through Official Development Assistance projects to develop Vietnam’s socio-economic infrastructure.

While meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia Bronwyn Bishop and the President of the Senate, Stephen Parry, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Dung informed them of the outcome of his recent talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott. He said they had agreed to promote Vietnamese-Australian ties to a new level and asked the Australian parliament to support efforts to further bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples as well as for peace, stability and development in the region. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that Australia would continue to assist Vietnam in developing its infrastructure, human resources, agriculture and poverty reduction. Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung asked the two leaders to encourage Australian parliamentarians to have more activities in boosting friendship and the strategic partnership, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese community to study and work in the country.   

Australian leaders also spoke highly of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Australia, considering it to be a significant milestone in Vietnamese-Australian relations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also met with the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group. He stressed the signing of a statement to enhance the Comprehensive Partnership could create the basis for furthering bilateral ties in every field, including politics, economics, trade, investment, education and technology. The Prime Minister asked the group to urge the Australian government to maintain and increase aid to Vietnam and further support the Vietnamese community there.
