Priorities of APEC Year 2017 debated

(VOVworld) – The First APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1) entered its second working day in Nha Trang city on Friday with a series of issues high on the agenda, including food security and climate changes.

Delegates from 21 APEC member economies discussed implementation of the Framework for the Multi-Year APEC Program on Food Security and Climate Change and the APEC Strategic Framework on Rural-Urban Development to Strengthen Food Security and Inclusive Growth.

They will also discuss the role of food markets in enhancing food security in the region and the next steps to prepare for the APEC Post-2020 Vision and proposals by Australia and Canada for project changes.

The delegates are expected to hear the Budget and Management Committee (BMC) Chair’s report on the outcomes of its first meeting and the committee’s priorities for APEC 2017.

The APEC Executive Director is scheduled to present the APEC Secretariat’s strategic plan until 2019, an operational plan for this year, and a work program of the Policy Support Unit.

Following 60 meetings of 38 APEC committees and working groups, APEC delegates will now set priorities for the committees on commerce and investment, economy, economic-technical cooperation, and budget and management. They will also outline orientations for APEC activities from now till the APEC summit in Da Nang this November.
