Radio’s role in protecting ethnic minority groups’ interests

(VOVworld)- Delegates to RadioAsia 2013 on Tuesday attended two discussions on radio development in the new era and community radio and its role in protecting the interests of ethnic minority groups. They discussed strategies to promote advertising on radio in the context of social media. With regards to community radio and its role in protecting ethnic minority groups’ interests, the delegates discussed local radio stations’ experience in adapting to the new media including mobile devices and social media networks while protecting the interests of ethnic minority groups.

The same day, they discussed ways to develop more interesting radio programs and radio’s contribution to information, communication and technology in the current context. Dang Thi Hue, Deputy Director of the Ethnic Minority Department of VOV, shares her experience in producing interesting radio programs through story telling and image enhancement.Ms Hue said: “In VOV, we have 35 programs dedicated to folk music produced by the Music Information and Entertainment Channel VOV3 and dramas produced by the VOV2 Channel. We also have 12 programs in ethnic languages introducing the cultural life of 54 ethnic minority groups. In these programs, we try to represent the voices of all 54 minority groups and have them tell their own stories”.

Foreign delegates particularly focused on targeting young listeners, who are tending to move away from radio unless the content changes.
