Recovery efforts after Wutip storm

(VOVworld) – Tropical storm Wutip killed eight people, injured 199, and left 2 missing after it swept across the central province of Quang Binh.

The typhoon destroyed and unroofed over 156,000 houses, 460 schools, and 100 boats. In Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province, infrastructure and more than 90 percent of the houses were seriously damaged. The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam has distributed 10 tons of instant noodles to 9 coastal communes. Sectors and security forces have been mobilized to help local people recover from the storm. Lieutenant General Tu Hong Son, Deputy Head of Quang Binh province’s Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, said all local resources have been mobilized: "First, we are cooperating with the Ministry of Transport to repair roads, especially National Highway 1A and the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Second, we are ensuring security and safety to prevent looting after the storm. Soldiers and young people have been mobilized to help the survivors". 

Quang Tri province donated 75 USD to each injured person and 50 USD to each family whose house was destroyed.

The Ministry of Health provided medicine and 700 life jackets to Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ngai, and Da Nang.

Meanwhile, Electricity of Vietnam has asked its affiliates to do all they can to restore power as soon as possible. Dong Dang Lake, Thung Coi Lake, and Cay Trau Lake in Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province overflowed. Local people have been evacuated from the flood areas and provided with food and medicine. Nguyen Duc Quyen, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa province’s People’s Committee said people have been removed to safe areas such as offices, schools, and medical clinics and provided with food and medical care.
