(VOVworld) – Russia would provide military assistance only to the legitimate army of President Assad in line with the UN Charter.

At an interview with US TV stations prior to his meeting with US President Barack Obama on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said assistance would be limited to the supply of weapons, training, and humanitarian aid.
Mr. Putin said Russia has no plans to take part in any military operations in Syria or other countries. He added Washington has trained and provided weapons to 60,000 Syrian opposition militants. But around 5,000 of them became involved in the fight against the Islamic State, and the rest left to join the terrorist group.
