(VOVworld) – Russian President Vladimir Putin began an official state visit to India on Thursday. He will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, and representatives of the Indian business community.

The meeting between Putin and Modi will focus on expanding cooperation in civil nuclear energy, oil and gas, defense, and trade.
Putin will try to boost economic cooperation with India to reduce the effects of sanctions the US and other western countries have imposed on Russia over the Ukraine crisis.
During Putin's visit, India and Russia will sign some 20 agreements.
