Russia: Putin signs law on Crimea accession

(VOVworld) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed into law on the accession of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia, and issued federal constitutional law on making Crimea part of Russia, and on the formation of two new Russian administrative regions.

Putin signed a decree on the formation of Crimean federal district and appointed Oleg Belavensev as the Presidential envoy in Crimea. Crimea officially became Russia’s 9th federal region that includes the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol. Earlier, with 155/155 yes unanimously, the Federation Council, Russian Upper House of Parliament, approved the bill on accession of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to Russia. The State of Duma, the Russian Lower House of Parliament, approved the bill on Thursday.
