In a phone call on Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin urged US President Barack Obama to distinguish more moderate Syrian opposition groups from the Al-Nusra Front, which the Kremlin considers a terrorist group.

President Obama asked President Putin to take steps to end the fighting in Eastern Ukraine. Obama stressed the need to fully comply with the Minsk peace agreement and expressed his own readiness to work with Russia and France to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Putin reiterated that Kiev needs to abide by the Minsk deal and said Russia wants peace in Nagorno-Karabakh.
