Russian, Turkish Presidents discuss extension of ceasefire in Syria

(VOVworld) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed by phone on Thursday a plan to expand the ceasefire in Syria.

According to the Turkish president’s office, the two leaders also discussed the peace talks scheduled to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan later this month. Erdogan and Putin said the ceasefire is being widely honored in Syria, and expressed hopes for the negotiation in Astana.

On Thursday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said the current discussions between Ankara and Moscow could reduce tensions and resolve the fresh water crisis threatening millions of people in Damascus.
