(VOVWORLD) - The need for a meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has become greater due to the standoff between the United States and North Korea.
Spokesman for South Korea’s presidential office Kim Eui-kyeom told reporters on Tuesday, adding the inter-Korean summit will likely be held as scheduled.
The official said South Korea expects the summit to play a role in paving the way and further expanding the path. He also dismissed the possibility of a delay in the Moon-Kim summit despite the failure of the two Koreas to hold any follow-up discussions on the proposed summit so far.
In high-level talks held earlier this month, the two Koreas agreed to hold the third Moon-Kim summit in Pyongyang next month. The United States, however, has since called off a scheduled visit to North Korea of its top diplomat Mike Pompeo.
