Sri Lanka troops kill suspected gunmen

(VOVWORLD) - 15 people have died during the Sri Lankan security forces' operation in the aftermath of the Easter attacks, as 3 cornered suicide bombers blew themselves up and others were shot dead, Sri Lankan police reported.

The 3 men set off explosives were believed to a jihadist hideout near the eastern town of Kalmunai on Friday. 3 other men, also believed to be suicide bombers, were found dead outside the house, police said, adding that they had been shot. Security forces have stepped up their searches for extremists after the IS group claimed responsibility for the suicide attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels.

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday apologized to the people for the failure to protect victims from Sunday's explosions which killed 253 people and injured over 500.
