Students express love for Vietnam’s sea, islands

(VOVword) – Students on the Phu Quoc and Tho Chu islands of southern Kien Giang province will have 4 days later this week to erect a flagpole, talk with soldiers, join a photo contest featuring Vietnam’s sea and islands, and present gifts to fishermen. Their activities are in response to Year for Youth Volunteers 2014 and Vietnam’s Sea and Island Week 2014, to be observed in early June.

Nguyen Quang Huy, Vice President of the Vietnam Students' Association, told reporters on Monday: “All Vietnamese have recently turned their attention to the East Sea issue. Our activities will thoroughly explain the legal issues so that the students are properly able to defend our national sea and islands. 900 students attending this event will be active communicators at the association’s affiliates.”

The event is held annually at islands at the front line to encourage the love of youngsters for their homeland and their responsibility for defending seas and islands.
