Talks held between Vietnamese, Cambodian top legislators

(VOVWORLD) -National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on Friday chaired a welcoming ceremony and held talks with his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Khuon Sudary, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

The two leaders emphasized the Vietnam visit by the President of the Cambodian National Assembly as Cambodia has just successfully organized the 7th National Assembly election. Samdech Khuon Sudary chose Vietnam as the first country to visit in her new position shows the importance of developing the traditional friendly neighborly relationship between the two countries.

Chairman Hue suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen political trust and strategic trust between the two States; coordinate to well implement joint declarations, agreements, especially conclusions of recent meetings between senior leaders of the two countries.

The two sides agreed to strengthen connections between young leaders, coordinate to well organize the 45th anniversary of victory over the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in January next year, educating the younger generations of the two countries about their tradition of solidarity and friendship. The two sides will also strengthen defense and security cooperation, considering this a pillar of their relationship and a solid support for each other in ensuring national security and effectively responding to non-traditional security challenges. They agreed to boost cybersecurity cooperation and continue coordination to build a shared border of peace, stability and development.

The two sides agreed to soon complete the "Master plan connecting the two economies until 2030"; promote bilateral trade and develop border economies; facilitate the import and export of agricultural products, and soon sign an agreement on plant protection and inspection. The two leaders stressed the need to link production and supply chains between Cambodia and Vietnam and expand aquaculture projects and production and processing of animal and poultry feed.

The two top legislators stressed the need to well manage the border to ensure security and safety, fight against crime, protect demarcation results, and accelerate the demarcation and border marker planting of the remaining 16%, with priority given to resolving 6% of borders related to land swaps.

The two sides pledged to consult on strategic, security and development issues of the region as well as each country, affirm ASEAN's centrality in regional issues, and jointly uphold ASEAN's common principled stance on the East Sea.
