Tension mounts over Syria’s crisis

Tension between the West and Syria is getting worse. The war seems imminent when a source on Thursday said the US Navy is increasing its presence in the Persian Gulf and the number of aircraft carriers to 2. The USS Harry S Truman has arrived in the Arabian Sea and was at first scheduled to take the place of the USS Nimitz in the Indian Ocean but then Washington ordered the Nitmitz to remain in the Persian Gulf.

On Wednesday, the UK, China, France, Russia, and the UK ended a meeting on a London-proposed resolution to authorize military intervention in Syria without any signs of consensus on criticizing chemical weapon use in Syria. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov said it’s untimely to talk about UN sanctions against Damascus before investigators submit a report on the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged all sides to show restraint. Syrian civilian and opposition sources reported that President Bashar al-Assad’s forces have evacuated most officials from security and military headquarters in Damascus to avoid any possible attacks.
