(VOVworld) – Voters in Thailand began casting their ballots of the general election on Sunday as 10 percent of the polling stations were forced to close by anti-government protesters. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra voted soon after polls opened near her home in Bangkok. President of the Democrat Party Abhisit Vejjajaiva said he would not vote in the unconstitutional election. But Yingluck’s government said the election takes place in line with the existing Constitution. A spokesperson for the Democrat Party said members are allowed to vote although it boycotts the election by refusing to give out a list of candidates.

Anti-government protesters are called to boycott the election

According to the Election Commission of Thailand, a total of 93,300 polling stations are sety up in 375 areas nationwide, where 49 million eligible Thai voters cast their ballots. Security is tightened amid anti-government protests. 130,000 security personnel are deployed all over the country.
