The Pentagon says North Korea’s latest threat to attack US military bases in the Asia Pacific is serious.

The statement was made after the North Korea’s KCNA news agency quoted the Supreme Command of the Korean People’s Army as saying that long-range artillery units and strategic rocket units are in position to target bases in Hawaii, Guam, and on the US mainland. Pentagon spokesman George Little told the Washington press that he is  concerned about this threat and considers it serious. He added that the US stands ready to respond to any contingency. White House spokesperson Jay Carney expressed the same point of view saying that North Korea’s bluster  makes the regional situation more tense.
