Long Thanh, Vietnam's biggest airport to be, is scheduled to enter service in 2025. When fully completed by 2050, it will have an annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo.

Chairman Hue urged Dong Nai provincial authorities and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to do their utmost, particularly in land clearance and relocation of locals, to meet the set targets.

ACV had announced that construction of the airport would start this month.

Also on Sunday, Chairman Hue inspected the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project.

The road, which will run 57.7 km between provinces of Long An in the Mekong Delta and Dong Nai, will pass through HCM city.

Once complete, it will be the longest expressway in southern Vietnam.

The road is expected to improve regional connectivity between the delta, the country's agriculture hub, and the southeastern region, home to many industrial zones.
