Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Egypt Nguyen Duy Hung said the Covid-19 pandemic affected Vietnam-Egypt trade ties, but opened up new opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to increase their market share of tea, coffee, and rice. Egyptian companies are particularly interested in seafood, especially canned tuna. Fibers, artificial fibers, and fabrics face tariffs of 5 to 10% Egypt.

Mr. Hung said: “With good preparation, Vietnam and Egypt can set a sustainable 1 billion USD turnover target for the next 3 to 5 years. They should quickly sign co-operation agreements and open their markets to each other's agricultural products. A free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Arab bloc as a whole should be considered.”

Hung called for close co-operation between the two nations' chambers of commerce and business associations.
