Mohammed Morsi and 19 other defendants shouted slogans protesting the military government, sang the national anthem, and banged on their box. Selim El Awa, head of the attorney group requested the removal of the soundproof box because it prevents defendants from hearing accusations and arguments. The court denied this request and asked the Lawyers’ Union to assign 10 new lawyers to defend Morsi and the other defendants in the trial scheduled to take place on February 23. Morsi also has to face 3 other trials on charges of violence and murdering protestors in December, 2012; organizing a prison escape, and the kidnapping and killing of police officers in early 2011; and offending justice. If guilty, Morsi could receive the death penalty or a life sentence.
