Trinidad and Tobago's UN Ambassador elected next leader of UN General Assembly

(VOVWORLD) - Trinidad and Tobago’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dennis Francis, has been elected to be the next president of the UN General Assembly. Francis has chosen “Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability” as his theme.

In his address following the election on Thursday, Francis spoke about the prominent role of education and investment in human resources in boosting social and economic development through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He pledged during his tenure to promote multilateralism and dialogue between nations, and strengthen international solidarity to overcome current global challenges.

World leaders delivered congratulations to the new President. Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, congratulated Mr. Francis and the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and said he hopes the two countries and their delegations will continue to have a good cooperative relationship.
