Turkey, Russia, Iran to hold Syria summit in Istanbul

(VOVWORLD) -The Presidents of Russia and Turkey agreed Thursday to strengthen coordination between the two countries' military and security services in Syria in the fight against terrorism.

Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan, in a telephone conversation, also discussed the prospects for new contacts between Russia, Turkey, and Iran on Syria. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a possible summit meeting between the leaders of the three countries was discussed, but no date has been agreed.
Mr. Putin and Mr. Erdogan stressed the importance of strict and unfailing adherence to the Astana agreements on de-escalation zones in Syria. They reaffirmed mutual commitment to the political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254, in line with the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, which took place last week in Sochi.
