(VOVWORLD) -Donors at a EU-led conference in Brussels, Belgium, on Monday pledged 7.5 billion USD in aid to people in Turkey and Syria affected by last month's devastating earthquakes, which left more than 56,000 people dead.

EC President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU 27 members will provide 3.4 billion USD, the EC itself will give 1.1 billion dollars to support reconstruction efforts in Turkey.
The UNDP estimated the total financial burden of the earthquake disaster for Turkey at 103.6 billion USD, about 9% of Turkey’s GDP for this year.
