Two Koreas begin 2nd round of high-level meetings

(VOVworld) – The two Koreas on Friday began the second round of high-level talks at the demilitarized area of Panmunjeom, according to an official from Seoul’s Unification Ministry. The meetings aim to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues including reunions of families separated by the 1950-1953 Korean War. Leading the South Korean delegation is Kim Kyon huyn, head of the Secretariat of the National Security Council while the head of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea delegation is Won Dong Yon, Vice Director of the United Front Department of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

Earlier, the two delegations ended their one-day talk with no progress on Wednesday. Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon praised the negotiations between the two Koreas. Ban’s spokesperson Martin Nesirky said that the leader expressed his strong belief that the talks will contribute to building trust and cooperation on the Korean peninsula.
