This year also witnessed the Hanoi University of Science and Technology make the list of the leading 1201+ institutions, while the Ho Chi Minh City-based Ton Duc Thang University was ranked among the 1001 to 1200 list.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, more commonly known globally as MIT, topped the 2021 QS University World Rankings, followed by Stanford and Harvard, all of which are located in the United States.

Criteria for evaluation are academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty to student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.
