Since its establishment, membership has grown from 7 to 14 member countries including Vietnam. Over the past 50 years, the Committee has played a special role in minimizing the loss of life and property damage as well as social, economic, and environmental impacts caused by typhoons.

During the 4-day meeting, which will conclude on Saturday, participants will sum up the 2017 typhoon season, discuss the capacity and policies of the Committee, and agree on an action plan until 2021.

On this occasion, countries, hydro-meteorology agencies, and individuals who have contributed to the Committee will be honored. The Vietnam National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting will receive the Committee’s Kintana Award.
